Choosing dumbbells for your space

Every dumbbell on this page is sold individually. That matters more than it sounds: a pre-packed set forces you to buy sizes you will never lift, and leaves you short at the weights you actually use. Buy the pairs you train with, and add to them as you get stronger.

Which type suits you

  • Hex rubber is the workhorse. Rubber-encased heads protect the floor, the hex shape stops them rolling, and they stack neatly on a rack. If you want one type, buy these.
  • Round rubber has the compact head profile commercial gyms prefer and looks better on an open rack. Slightly more per kilo than hex.
  • PVC coated runs from 0.5kg to 6kg for group fitness, pilates and rehab. Light, easy to clean, comfortable for high-rep work.
  • Steel electroplated is dense and bare, with no rubber. The smallest footprint per kilo and the traditional feel some lifters prefer.
  • Adjustable replaces an entire rack in the footprint of one pair. The right answer when floor space costs more than convenience.

How much do you need

A home gym usually starts with 5kg to 25kg in 2.5kg jumps, which is about nine pairs. A personal training studio wants that range doubled up plus something to 40kg. A commercial floor runs 2.5kg to 50kg with a full rack per side.

Weights are heavy, so freight is quoted honestly rather than hidden in the price. Pick-up from our Morisset warehouse is free, and if you are fitting out a whole room it is worth asking us to spec and price it in one go.
